Decorating your children’s bedroom for Christmas
from:Decorating your children’s bedroom for Christmas can be a fun family activity for you and your kids. You can start out by asking your children the theme and feel they want for their bedroom.
Christmas-themed bedrooms for children can be neutral - where your Christmas bedroom theme is not based on gender - such as snowy scenery, Santa or nativity theme or a generic Christmas theme using Christmas decorations and ornaments to redecorate your bedroom. Neutral Christmas bedroom themes are great for bedrooms for both boys and girls.
Girls may wish for Christmas bedroom themes with fairies, pixies and their favorite cartoon character. Boys may want a more ‘rugged’ Christmas bedroom themes with snow plow, sledges and their own favorite cartoon characters too. Ask your child what he or she expects from the Christmas themed bedroom – they are the ones who will sleep and play in that room!
Whatever theme you or your children choose for their Christmas bedroom design, safety must always come first. If your children are involved in the redecorating of their bedroom for Christmas, do ensure that the tasks are safe for children. Use non-toxic paints and glues for your Christmas decorating projects. Keep sharp cutter-knives, scissors and staplers away from young kids.
If your child is under six years old, give him or her easy and safe activities such as coloring angel or snowflake pictures. Older children can help you with gluing, cutting and creating Christmas ornaments or painting and putting up decorations in their bedroom.
If you plan to have a small Christmas tree or Christmas lights in your children’s bedroom, make sure that your child is old enough to understand the dangers of electricity. Christmas lighting and excessively decorated trees can be a fire hazard and are not recommended for bedrooms with young children.
A simple way to redecorate your child’s bedroom for Christmas is by buying Christmas-themed curtains, duvet covers, pillow cases and bed sheets for your child’s bedroom. This decorating tip is great if you don’t have much time, especially towards that last two weeks before Christmas! Sales for bedroom sheets and covers are also plentiful during these periods and you and your child will have many designs to choose from.
If you have much time to spare and are on a tight budget, you can start with your own DIY Christmas decorations by using things you can find around the house, especially in your attic and basement. Old Christmas decorations such as snow globes and Christmas tree ornaments can be given a face-lift by just applying glue, some glitter and paint.
More adventurous families with teenage kids can create their own Christmas furniture for the bedroom such as Santa-themed side tables, lamp shades and so forth. Once again, ask your teenager to be careful whilst handling tools such as hammers and saws.
Whatever Christmas bedroom decorating activities you decide to have with your kids, create a fun family atmosphere whilst decorating your children Christmas bedroom. The bedroom decorating activity should be fun and not feel like a chore to your kids.
They should feel happy to interior decorate their bedroom for Christmas and if done right, your family activities together will give fond memories to them for many years to come. Who knows, this might be a yearly activity for your family.
